What an amazing afternoon we shared making a dream come true for Katherine House resident, Anne, as part of our One Wish Project. Nature enthusiast, Anne, was a member of the Avon Wildlife Trust, spending much of her life volunteering to protect wildlife and enabling it to thrive across the region. Anne prides herself for her lifelong passion and commitment to wildlife and the natural world. In her spare time, she describes having always visited nature reserves and green spaces to soak up the surrounding landscapes, flora and fauna.
Wellbeing Coordinator, Sabina, spoke to Anne about our One Wish Project, giving Anne the opportunity to have a special dream come true. Working together, Anne was offered a selection of experiences with wildlife and she chose an exciting exotic animal experience with the company, Rockin’ Reptiles. A family run professional business based in Bristol, Rockin’ Reptiles, offers the chance to get up close and personal with some of the world’s most fascinating creatures. We were beyond impressed with the brilliant Matt and Christine from Rockin’ Reptiles who brought a large variety of creatures – from tiny chameleons, bearded dragons to snakes (including the star of the show- a 12 ft Burmese python called Barry!)
Supported by the Wellbeing Team, care team and management, all residents and staff were able to enjoy this sensory experience, as well as Anne’s family and it was very moving to see the benefits of animal therapy. We were able to learn about each creature, watch feedings and each touch or hold them. Several brave residents and team members even conquered their fear of snakes but as you can see, Anne was a clear natural from the start
“This was the best day I’ve ever had whilst living here! More people turned up than I could have ever imagined, and I think the experience will be a very memorable one for everyone who came. What a fantastic day. Thank you for all your efforts.” Anne
I have not seen Mum so happy for a long time, she loved every minute. I think all the residents and staff alike had a great afternoon. Thanks so much for organising this.” Anne’s daughter
